Translation of Letter sent to Jathedar, sri Akal Takht Sahib
As for the issue of NS is concerned, the Institute has always demanded that wider consultations be held before making any change(s) to the 2003 version of the NS approved by the SGPC, as the absence of such an exercise will lead to gross dissatisfaction among the Sikhs. Great responsibility falls upon the Akal Takht Sahib to keep the Sikhs well informed to remain united. If the issue would be well debated and well deliberated upon, then whatever the decision arrived at would be acceptable to all.
For the last many decades, since Independence, Sikhs are demanding an independent identity from the Government, which has gone unheeded so far. It is most unfortunate, therefore, that we are denying ourselves an opportunity whereby we can add a feature, based on Gurmat, to our independent identity.
The Gurus sacrificed their all to rid us of ignorance/ superstition; but we are failing them miserably.
We, at the Institute, demand from Sri Akal Takht Sahib that the Sikh masses be given the advantage of an open debate on TV between the leading Proponent(s) and Opponent(s) as regards the Nanakshahi Calendar issue. Handling this sensitive issue without transparency is bound to prove detrimental to our united future.

ਪਰਮ ਸਤਿਕਾਰਯੋਗ ਜਥੇਦਾਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ,
ਜਿੱਥੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਨਾਨਕਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਕੈਲੰਡਰ ਦਾ ਸਬੰਧ ਹੈ ਇੰਸਟੀਚਿਊਟ ਵਲੋਂ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਮੰਗ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਾਲ 2003 ਵਾਲੇ ਐਸ ਜੀ ਪੀ ਸੀ ਵਲੋਂ ਪਰਵਾਨਿਤ ਨਾਨਕਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਕੈਲੰਡਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਈ ਤਬਦੀਲੀ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਪੱਧਰ ਤੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਵਟਾਂਦਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਵਟਾਂਦਰੇ ਦੀ ਅਣਹੋਂਦ ਕਾਰਨ ਸਿੱਖ ਮਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਸੱਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕੇਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਪਰਾਮਤਾ ਵੱਧੇਗੀ | ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਕਾਲ ਤਖਤ ਦੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਮ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਗਿਆਨ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਆਪਸੀ ਏਕਤਾ ਬਣੀ ਰਹੇ | ਜੇਕਰ ਇਸ ਮਸਲੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਆਦਾਨ ਪਰਦਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਨਤੀਜੇ ਵਜੋੱ ਕੀਤੇ ਫੈਸਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਦੀ ਪਰਵਾਨਗੀ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ |
ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਉਪਰੰਤ ਕਈ ਦਹਾਕਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਗੌਰਮਿੰਟ ਕੋਲੋ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਹਸਤੀ ਤੇ ਨਵੇਕਲੀ ਹੋਂਦ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਅਜੇ ਤੱਕ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਸੁਣਵਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਈ | ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕੌਮ ਦੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਬਦ-ਕਿਸਮਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਅਵਸਰ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਝਿਆ ਰੱਖ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਸ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਨਿਵੇਕਲੀ ਪਹਿਚਾਣ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਰੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੰਗ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ |
ਸਾਨੂੰ ਜਹਾਲਤ, ਵਹਿਮਾਂ, ਭਰਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ਦਿਵਾਣ ਲਈ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਵਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਪਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਸ਼ੇ ਤੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਉਤਰੇ |
ਨਾਨਕਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਕੈਲੰਡਰ ਬਾਰੇ ਇਸ ਦੇ 'ਹੱਕ ਵਿੱਚ' ਅਤੇ 'ਵਿਰੋਧ ਵਿੱਚ' ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮੁਖੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਟੈਲੀਵਿਜ਼ਨ ਤੇ ਪਾਰਦਰਸ਼ਕ ਬਹਿਸ (Open Debate) ਕਰਵਾਈ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਸਿੱਖ ਜਨ ਸਮੂੰਹ ਨੂੰ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਪੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਨਣ ਦਾ ਮੌਕਾ ਮਿਲ ਸਕੇ | ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨਾ ਕਰਨ ਤੇ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੌਮੀ ਏਕਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡੀ ਸੱਟ ਵੱਜਣ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਵਨਾ ਬਣੀ ਰਹੇਗੀ |
ਆਪ ਵਲੋਂ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਖੋਜ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਾਂ |
