On the ISC Front

Lt Col Jagtar Singh

Introduction

As the first quarter of the year 2022 draws to a close, we at ISC can look back with satisfaction for having started on a positive note. Each day at ISC was packed with discussions and meetings, planning and conducting events to promote the cause of children education, women empowerment especially in rural areas and proactively engaging in a positive manner on current regional, educational, social and religious issues with concerned authorities.

Meetings of the Advisory Councils

The first meeting of the Advisory Council on Education of ISC was held on 15 Jan 2022. Thirteen members, some in person and others through Zoom, attended the meeting. A detailed discussion on ‘Shaheedi Bal Diwas’ took place. The members unanimously appreciated the step taken by the Prime Minister to declare 26 Dec as Shaheedi Bal Diwas in memory of the supreme sacrifice made by Chote Sahibzade to uphold their principles. They discussed the manner in which this day should be observed. Dr Sardara Singh Johl, Convenor ISC also gave his views and valuable advice on the subject. Dr Jaspal Kaur Kaang briefed the members on the progress made so far on the making of short film/documentary. Brig GJ Singh VSM (Retd), gave information about ‘Baba Banda Singh Bahadur AFPI, Fatehgarh Sahib’ including their curriculum, daily routine and the motivational level of the students.

The next meeting of the Advisory Council of ISC was held on 15 Feb 2022. The members discussed the underlying Causes of why “Deras” have sprung up in Punjab and surrounding states. Many members gave valuable suggestions in this regard. Members were also given an update on the activities and projects undertaken by ISC by the Secretary General, Col JS Multani.

During one of the meetings a few members had proposed the idea of making documentaries and short films on Sikh history and heritage. A separate meeting was held on 28 Jan 22 to further discuss idea. It was deliberated that ISC should take up Docu-Series on the wars fought by Guru Sahibaan, starting from Guru Hargobind Sahib onwards, and the likely strategies adopted for these wars from the military standpoint (as was also brought out by Gen Kartar Singh Gill in his lectures). Wars of Banda Singh Bahadur could also be included with each episode of approx 20-30 minutes duration which would be a narration, with images, video clips, and paintings etc. These could possibly be prepared using resources of ISC with historical academic inputs by Dr Jaspal Kaur Kaang and S Bhavkaran Singh.

The Proposal of S Bhavkaran Singh about an international-level Project for audiences worldwide should also be initiated simultaneously after due deliberations on the subject, storyline, concept, etc., for which a detailed report will have to be prepared, mentioning the estimated production costs involved, including those by a highly professional team, comprising of Directors, Script-writers, Cameramen, etc. This Project Report will be useful to share the concept with prospective donors. Individual funding/ crowd funding/ sponsorship/ Netflix, etc., all options will also need to be studied.
